Fun Friday

Here are my top 5 things going on in the area this weekend, in no particular order.

Drum roll please!

1.As a kid, we used to love to catch fireflies in jars and watch as they lit up the sky. Learn all about these magical bugs at Longwood Gardens Friday, June 25th at 7:00pm during their Family Fire Fly Night. Participate in a  ladybug release and end the evening releasing the fireflies with in their beautiful garden settings.

2.It's Family Fun night Friday at Freddy Hill Farms in Lansdale from 6pm to 10pm. A family that comes together to play miniature golf, saves together. Receive $1 discount per person. Hey! It adds up! You just saved yourself an ice cream cone or two.

3. This is a must see. If you have been to the zoo and seen the amazing Creatures of Habitat displays and wondered how it was made, here is your chance! Come to the Philadelphia Zoo this weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to noon and 2 pm to 4 pm and hang with one of only nine certified LEGO artists, and learn how to create these amazing displays. Your child will have the opportunity to create their own creature in the LEGO play area. Hey! Where's the adult area? What a cool job!

4. Saturday the fun continues in Philadelphia at the World Live Cafe Peanut Butter and Jams' Kids concerts series with The Cat's Pajamas. It's not just about music with The Cat's Pajamas, they invite the audience to enter a world of stories, dance, puppets and props, while making great music that just happens to be for kids, while at the same time engaging the adults too! Love it. And with a name like Peanut Butter and Jams, this concert sounds good enough to eat. Meow. Doors open at 11:00am, fun kicks off at 11:30am!

5. Of course I  have to end with my son's favorite subject, trains. It's Circus week at The Morris Arboretum Garden Railway. And It's only fitting that the Morris Arboretum is in Philadelphia, where the first circus came to town in 1793. Come see the big top and circus trains. Keep your eyes open, you may catch a few surprises along the way. Circus week runs from Saturday, June 26th through Monday July 5th, but the Garden Railway is open through the summer, with a Thomas the tank engine event coming in the middle of July!!

The summer is here and it is time to find ways to keep the kids occupied. Here are a couple things to do during the week:

Penn Packer Farm in Horsham, holds a Little Sprout Classes for ages 3 to 6. It is a great way for your child to learn about nature and farm operations. The classes run in 4 week sessions and require registration. Check out their website for more information.

Don't be discouraged by my recent trip to the movies, this is actually a great deal. Regal Theatres across the country are offering FREE movies for kids on Tuesday and Wednesdays at 10:00am. They are offering some fun movies. Last week we saw Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs and next week they are offering one of my childhood favorites E.T

If you live closer to an AMC theatres, they are offering $1 movies every Tuesday at 10:00am throughout the summer. I know it's not free, but the $1 you pay goes to benefit one of the two AMC charities-Variety-The Children's Charity and The Will Rogers Institute! Not bad! Please check their website for locations.

If you know of anything going on this summer that is "blog worthy" leave me a comment, I'll add it to my posts and give you props along the way.
